A message from the office of the PCC

18 December 2020

While every year is different and brings its own challenges, we can safely say 2020 tops them all.

New rules on how we socially interact and behave, and our movement both inside and outside the country, have turned our lives upside down. Those of you in frontline policing roles have had to get to grips with an array of new responsibilities and legislative changes to keep the wider public safe. We know that this hasn’t been easy, especially with advice rapidly changing along the way.

A New Year, however, brings us hope and optimism and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your dedication, resilience and service over the past 12 months. Above all, we would like to thank you for your adaptability. There have been enormous changes to the way we all work but everyone has pulled together to maintain a seamless service at what is a critical time in our history.

Please know that we appreciate the hours you invest into keeping Derbyshire safe, something particularly challenging over recent months. It is also important to remember and thank your families who have supported you along this rather rocky road.

Despite the difficulties, there have many successes during the year including the work you do in collaboration with our partner agencies to resolve problems and deliver a more rounded response to local issues.  We know the public shares our appreciation and gratitude for the work you do to make Derbyshire as safe as it can be.

Please stay safe over the winter months and thank you for your hard work and support.

With best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Hardyal Dhindsa and Deputy PCC Kevin Gillott
