The Derbyshire Police officer nominated for the national Bravery Award said it was a ‘privilege’ to represent the Force at a Downing Street reception.
PC Louisa Anderson joined nominees from across England and Wales at an event in the gardens of 10 Downing Street.
There she met the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood and had the chance to speak to other officers from across the country about their stories of bravery.
Louisa was nominated following her courageous actions during a mental health incident in Sinfin, Derby, in June 2025.

She used her specialist firearms and medical training to save the life of a man who was repeatedly stabbing himself.
Speaking after the ceremony, Louisa said: “It’s so surreal. You almost feel like you don’t deserve to be here because it’s your job.
“We’re there to protect life and that’s what we do, day in and day out.
“To be at Downing Street on the back of a routine job, for me is phenomenal, and I’m enjoying every minute of it.
“It’s an honour and I am really privileged to be here.”
Louisa attended with her partner PC Sarah Ellis, of Derbyshire Police dog unit.
She said: “The reception was brilliant.
I got to meet the Downing Street cat, which was great, and have been in the gardens.
“We had some photos with the Home Secretary, and she made a little speech to us.
“We’ve mingled and shared each other’s stories.
“It’s been a really enjoyable morning.”
The Police Federation of England and Wales Bravery Awards take place later today.
The awards are held each year to recognise the bravery of police officers across England and Wales.
Derbyshire Police Federation secretary Chris Parker said: “We’re proud to see Louisa representing Derbyshire Police at Downing Street and as our Force's nominee for the Police Federation of England and Wales Bravery Awards.
“She modestly describes her actions as simply doing her job, but her bravery and commitment to protecting life deserve to be celebrated.
“We wish her well for the awards ceremony, and thank her and all our officers for the dedication they show every day in keeping our communities safe.”
