Roads Policing Seminar is great chance to share experiences

26 January 2024

The Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) is giving members the chance to come together to share experiences, discuss best practice, and steer the direction of roads policing.

PFEW’s Roads Policing Seminar takes place virtually on 30 January and Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton is encouraging members who are police drivers to take part.

There’s a busy agenda with discussions on forensic collision investigation, health and safety around electric vehicles, and a debate on the future of roads policing.

The spotlight will also fall on new legislation introduced in November 2022 designed to give police drivers better protection in law.

The session, titled 'New driving legislation - does it deliver better protection for officers?' will discuss the improved legal protection that should have been afforded to police drivers through the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022.

Tony said: “The Federation long campaigned to give police drivers better protection in law and that drive proved successful with the introduction of new legislation in 2022.

“This session provides the perfect opportunity to examine the legislation and the impact it is having on police drivers some 15 months or so after it came into law.

“Are Forces complying with the law? Are they meeting the training and learning standards? Are members getting the full protection?

“Some of these areas and more will be explored during the session.

“It’s an important one for police drivers and I’d encourage them to take part, if possible.”

Registration for the seminar is now open.
