Officers will use pedal power to support COPS charity

Derbyshire officers are once again being invited to join the East Midlands Chapter of the Police Unity Tour to raise money for the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity.

The tour is a sponsored cycle ride, usually covering around 180 miles, completed by officers from forces across England and Wales who this year will converge at the National Memorial Arboretum on Sunday 28 July for the COPS service of remembrance.

“Derbyshire officers and staff have long supported the Police Unity Tour and I am sure this year will be no different,” said Tony Wetton, chair of Derbyshire Police Federation.

Registration is now open for this year's Police Unity Tour.

The Police Unity Tour is now in its 12th year and has raised more than £1.2 million to fund the invaluable peer support offered to families through COPS.

The East Midlands Chapter is made up of riders from the region including officers and staff from the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire forces.

To take part this year, entrants have to register online and pay a £150 non-refundable registration fee which will offset the costs of two nights’ accommodation and a PUT cycling jersey.

COPS was founded in 2003 by retired Strathclyde police officer Jim McNulty and Christine Fulton (MBE) whose husband PC Lewis Fulton was murdered on duty in Glasgow in 1994.

COPS contacts the survivors of every officer who loses their life on duty, explaining what support the charity can offer and inviting them to get in touch if they need such support.
