Federation remembers young PC

Derbyshire PC Mark Wilkinson died on this day 36 years ago.

Mark was just 20 when he was killed in a road traffic accident on his way to report for night duty on 24 September 1988.

“The loss of any officer is a tragedy,” said Keith Chambers, chair of Derbyshire Police Federation, “But it is particularly tragic that Mark was so young and just embarking on a career in policing when he died in this incident.

“Our thoughts today are with Mark’s family and friends.”
