Check your blood pressure, and know your numbers

28 August 2024

The first sign that someone has high blood pressure could be a heart attack or a stroke.

Know Your Numbers! Week, runs from 2-8 September and Derbyshire Police Federation members are being urged to check their blood pressure.

While heart attacks and strokes are perhaps more commonly known to be caused by high blood pressure, it can also cause kidney disease, dementia and other illness.

But these can all be prevented with lifestyle changes and medication.

The Know Your Numbers campaign aims to reach those who do not know they have high blood pressure enabling them to get the treatment and support for lifestyle changes they might need to lower their blood pressure.

Police Mutual has also produced a Know Your Numbers factsheet to coincide with this year’s awareness campaign.

Police Mutual offers a range of products and services that are only available to police officers, staff, their families and the wider police family.

It has also published its September factsheets:

Sleeptember

National Fitness Day
