Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton says small lifestyle changes can make a big difference to members’ health and wellbeing.
He was speaking at the start of a series of awareness campaigns – Men’s Health Week, Healthy Eating Week and Loneliness Awareness Week – which all started yesterday (12 June).
Tony said: “Police officers have a unique role and experienced unique pressures in their job. We’re all so busy in our work and at home that we often don’t allow time for ourselves.
“Awareness campaigns like these are a really good way of focusing on ourselves and our own health. Small changes to our lifestyles, such as taking more exercise or eating more healthily, can make a big difference to our physical and mental health.”
Police Mutual, which offers financial services for serving or retired police officers, staff and their families, has produced a series of free online guides to coincide with the awareness weeks.
A factsheet for Men’s Health Week includes advice on the main physical health issues that men face and tips for staying healthy.
There’s also a section exploring men’s mental health including steps men can take to cope with being under pressure.

Police Mutual has also produced a free factsheet for Healthy Eating Week to help members think about improving their diet.
The guide includes advice on eating and drinking healthily, tips on losing weight and reducing hunger cravings and a focus on physical and psychological relationships with food.

The third and final online guide focuses on Loneliness Awareness Week (June 12 to 18), which aims to reduce the stigma of loneliness.
The factsheet aims to demystify loneliness and offers tips on what you can do if you feel lonely, as well as signposting to further support.
