Get help to quit smoking

9 March 2022

It’s never too late to quit smoking.

That’s the message from Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton this National No Smoking Day.

National No Smoking Day takes place on the second Wednesday in March each year and aims to help people who want to quit smoking.

Tony said: “There are many benefits to quitting smoking, and they start within hours of putting out your last cigarette.

“Your health will benefit, with carbon monoxide flushed out of your body within hours, improved breathing within days, and improved circulation within weeks.

“And your pocket will benefit too. An average smoker can save as much as £2,000 a year by not smoking.”

Police Mutual, which provides financial services and welfare support to the police service, has produced a leaflet to help members to quit smoking this National No Smoking Day.

It highlights the benefits of stopping smoking, and offers tips and advice on how to quit. It also signposts to places for further help.

Tony said: “We know that stopping smoking isn’t easy, tobacco is an addictive substance.

“But with help it can be done, which is why we’re directing members to Police Mutual’s factsheet. It offers practical tips to help and really highlights the benefits.

“It’s never too late to quit and this National No Smoking Day gives you that opportunity.”
