Derbyshire Police Federation chair Tony Wetton has paid tribute to two detectives who died in a road accident while serving with the Force 28 years ago.
DCs Anthony Thornley (31) and Gary Freeman (36) died when the car they were travelling in was in collision with a lorry on 19 August 1994.
“It is important that we remember the sacrifice of those officers who have died while serving their communities,” says Tony, “This was a tragic accident in which two officers lost their lives and their families are still feeling the effects of their loss today despite the passage of time.
“Our thoughts are with their families, their friends and their colleagues.”
