West Mercia Police’s Men’s Rugby team finished runners-up in the Police Sport UK (PSUK) Plate after a determined and spirited performance in the final.
The Force team missed out on silverware after losing 71-25 to Scottish Police Saltires at Sale FC.
Detective Inspector Dave Knight said the team has grown as the season has progressed and the players can be proud of their achievements.
Dave said: “The score line isn’t reflective of the effort put into the match by everyone involved.
“It was a much closer game than when we played against the Saltires earlier in the season, and I couldn’t be prouder of the lads’ determination and work rate.
“It was a great experience for all involved and a fitting way to cap off what has been a really decent season for us."
Individual performances stood out across the pitch.
Prop Mark Bates was named the West Mercia Police player of the match after delivering an outstanding defensive display, making an impressive number of tackles and turnovers.
Fellow prop Stuart Edwards also impressed, going over twice for two excellent tries.

Dave gave a thank-you to the supporters who travelled to back the team, and he acknowledged the vital role played by colleagues, friends, and family throughout the season.
Special recognition was given to player-coach PC Andy Kilmister, who has put in place the structure and playing style over recent seasons.
Dave also thanked the Force’s Sports Fund, represented by Inspector Alexander Denny, and Quick Mortgages for their ongoing financial support.
The season is not quite over for two of the team’s standout players as Joshua Nott and Finley Barnes prepare to represent West Mercia Police on the England Police tour to Argentina and Uruguay.
Dave said: “We wish them both all the best.
“And good luck to Max Vernon too, as he moves away from policing into pastures new. You will be missed.”
Attention now turns to next season and Dave said the club is always looking for new playing and backroom recruits.
Dave said: “Anyone interested in joining us next season please give me a shout.
“We are looking for players of any ability as well as backroom staff, particularly physios.
“We would also like to hear from anyone who would be interested in sponsoring the team in the future.”
