3 November 2025

SUSPOL

Represent & Support – Influence – Negotiate

Representing the needs and demands of Sussex members whilst partnering with the national Federation, contributing and pursing collaborative objectives for the benefit of the membership within England and Wales.

This strategy identifies the priorities we will pursue during this elective term of three years providing transparency and countability whilst ensuring we comply with our statutory responsibilities.

Our Vision

“We are your strong, trusted, and dedicated voice - independent and committed to representing every officer across Sussex. We deliver consistent support in Conduct, Equality, Wellbeing, and Health & Safety. Ensuring safe, fair, and inclusive conditions so you can focus on serving the public with confidence and pride.”

Strategic Priorities

Delivering Consistent, High-Impact Support Across Sussex

- Skilled Representation: All Federation Reps are fully trained, accredited, and equipped with specialist knowledge in Conduct, Health & Safety, and Equality.

- Strong Oversight: Reps are supported and performance-managed to maintain high standards and accountability.

- Responsive Support: Membership enquiries are acknowledged and actioned within clear timeframes—because your concerns matter.

- Legal Protection: Rapid access to legal advice during operational incidents, in line with PFEW funding rules

- Fairness First: We challenge disproportionate or unfair disciplinary actions to protect your rights.

- Influential Relationships: We maintain strong internal and external stakeholder partnerships to amplify your voice and drive positive change.

Championing Fair Pay and Working Conditions for Sussex Officers

- Partner with the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) to pursue amendments to Regulation 22, including advocating for a revised shift allowance that discourages ineffective workforce planning.

- Campaign for evidence-based, regulation-aligned rostering practices that promote officer wellbeing, resilience, and a healthy work-life balance.

- Proactively educate members and the public on the legal limitations impacting police officer employment rights and industrial options.

- Engage strategically with MPs, government officials, and key stakeholders through targeted media, public messaging, and private briefings to influence long-term policy reform.

- Support and amplify national and local pay and morale survey findings to provide evidence of pay disparities and cost-of-living pressures affecting Sussex officers.

- Identify and promote practical financial support measures, including partnerships or discounts that can mitigate the impact of rising living costs.

Strengthening Communication and Member Engagement

- Conduct regular consultation and feedback exercises to understand members' preferred communication channels and content needs.

- Implement a proactive communications strategy that leverages both internal platforms and external media to share key updates, campaign milestones, and outcomes.

- Ensure local Federation representatives receive timely, accurate briefings to enable consistent messaging and effective cascading to all members.

- Increase transparency across Federation operations, including spending, decisions, and strategic outcomes, to build trust and member confidence.

Recognising Excellence and Supporting Professional Pride

- Establish mechanisms to identify and publicly recognise outstanding work by Federation members across all areas of policing.

- Support and participate in leadership recognition initiatives and awards events that highlight excellence, innovation, and community impact.

- Collaborate with Sussex Police and external partners to promote positive stories and raise the profile of frontline officers’ contributions.
