Congratulations to all the worthy winners who were rightly recognised at the first ever Sussex Police Federation Bravery & Excellence in Policing Awards on 16th May in Brighton.

Brighton & Hove winners / Overall Winners

PS Craig Lees & PS Matthew Seekings

These two brave officers were involved in a search of someone who had entered the sea in order to harm themselves. Both officers, removed some of their clothing and equipment in order to enter the sea, swim out 50 meters in pitch black conditions in order to save the person.

East Sussex Winners

PC Smith, PC Robertson & PC S

These courageous officers attended an address in order to arrest a male. The male violently resisted and assaulted the officers in the process. The male entered the kitchen and took hold of a knife, threatening the officers. They managed to successfully detain the male utilising police equipment.

West Sussex Winners

PC Lauren Rippon, PC Shane Meech, PS Charlene Parsons, PC Michael Cordery, & PC McCavana

This amazing team of officers attended and address in order to arrest a suspect. He was located on the roof and they were able to gain successfully detain him at height which could have resulted in any of them or male, going over the edge of the building.

Operations Command Winner

PC Mark Tully

This fearless officer tackled an XL Bully dog with his hands, as it was about to attack a member of the public. The officer, despite being bitten, was able to secure the dog in a van. He then entered the address the dog had come from and was able to offer lifesaving first aid on a male who had been bitten by the dog.

PSD Winner

DC Julie Beckwith

This heroic officer, intervened, off duty, while out with her family in order to detain a member of the public who had ‘glassed’ other people within a restaurant.

Gatwick Winner

PC Andrei Netherwood 

This gallant officer, along with another, entered an address in order to arrest a male. On entering a property the male was found, topless with a large knife in his hands approaching the officers. They were able to use police equipment in order to successfully detain the male.

FCCCD Winner

PC Ben Barraclough

This brave officer was off duty in his vehicle when he assisted in an incident whereby a member of the public was having a mental health crisis. Whilst talking to the officer the male reached for a firearm and the officer managed to deal with the male, preventing any further incident.

Specialist Crime Command Winners

PC Br, PC B and PC Y

These unflinching officers deployed in Littlehampton in plain clothes in order to identify and arrest a dangerous sexual offender. They were followed by the male who was subsequently arrested when he attacked one of the officers.
