Free Prostate Cancer Tests Available for Sussex Police Officers

23 August 2023

If you're between 45 and 60 (or 40 – 44 with a family history of cancer) book now to take a free PSA test for prostate cancer and it could just save your life.

In its early stages prostate cancer generally produces no symptoms so it's important to diagnose the disease before symptoms arise and while it is still likely curable.

Andy Newman, Equality and Wellbeing Lead for Sussex Police Federation, said: “The Federation are pleased and happy to contribute to support members with this testing programme. Early diagnosis is a key part to treating prostate cancer please book yourself up as soon as possible via the intranet.”

“The Federation will be present at these clinics to answer any Federation issues please come along and say hello.”

A PSA test is nothing more than a simple blood test and is currently the best readily available indicator of a possible prostate problem. For something so simple that delivers such benefits why wouldn't you invest a few minutes of your time taking a free test.

Funding has been secured for 880 free tests for officers and staff across Surrey and Sussex and the events are now live and available for bookings in the Sussex Area below.

Events will be taking place as shown below:

Friday 15 Sept    Centenary House (Worthing)

Friday 22 Sept    John Street Police Station

Friday 29 Sept    Hastings Police Station

Friday 6 Oct       Lewes HQ

This is being supported by the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust who will arrange the testing events and you will be able to book your appointment through their website in due course.

The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust (GFCT) was set up by Graham Fulford to promote awareness of prostate cancer following the diagnosis of a close friend who died at the age of 58 and a close family member who died in 2007 with prostate cancer after a valiant fight. Since 2004, together with their partners, GFCT have been involved in testing over 131,984 men and conducting nearly 232,680 tests so far (8 June 2023).
