Sussex Police Federation Chairman reacts to Taser uplift announcement

2 March 2020

"Having more Tasers will go some way to better equipping police officers to deal with the increased violence that they face on a daily basis"

Sussex Police Federation Chairman Matt Webb has reacted to the news that Government funding has been provided for an extra 560 Tasers across Surrey and Sussex.

"This is definitely good news," said Matt.

"This additional funding will assist in ensuring that the additional officers that are to receive training will have adequate numbers of Tasers available to them at times of peak demand when we have more officers on duty for specific events.

"Taser is a lower level of use of force than baton or pepper spray so allows officers additional options, should reduce injuries to suspects and allow officers to not only better protect the public but be able to do it more swiftly.

"We are also aware that assaults on officers are on the increase and this news will go some way to better equipping officers to deal with the increased violence that they face on a daily basis."
