The husband of PC Rosie Prior is encouraging North Yorkshire Police Federation members to support the work of the ‘brilliant’ Police Children’s Charity.
Chris Prior said for a small donation each month, members can make a huge difference to the children of officers who have died or faced life-changing circumstances.
Speaking on the first anniversary of Rosie’s funeral (13 February), Chris said: “For a very small amount, police officers and staff can have an enormous impact on the lives of those children.
“For the price of a Freddo chocolate a week or half a coffee a month, you’ll be helping families who are going through the worst moments of their lives.”

The Police Children’s Charity aims to support police families by helping to ease the financial pressures of bringing up children in the face of life-changing circumstances.
By donating around £1.50 a month directly from their pay, members can be eligible for the support of the charity.
It helps around 300 children every year. Help can include weekly allowances, education and driving lesson grants, counselling support, and respite breaks at the charity’s holiday home in Harrogate.
More than £35,000 has been raised for the charity in Rosie’s name in funeral donations and fundraising challenges by friends and colleagues.
Rosie’s friends and colleagues are continuing to raise funds through sponsored endurance events.
They include taking part in the Drop UK, a navigation-based race where participants are blindfolded, transported to an unknown location, and have to find their way back without phones, maps, or GPS.
And Chris is determined to help continue to raise the profile of the charity and encourage others to support it.
He said: “In my circle of friends and colleagues, nobody had heard of it.
“But my boys have benefited from it and will continue to do so. The support has been brilliant.”
He added: “When you’re young and you join the police, it might not be something you would sign up for.
“However, circumstances change and many officers will have families.
“You hope it’s not your children who need this support, but you might be helping someone else’s family.”
“I encourage everyone to go back to the Fed and look at signing up to this, and the other services the Federation provides.”
