Your vote matters: Fed elections open

Rob Bowles is encouraging members to engage in the election process and vote for the colleagues they want to be their workplace representatives.

Voting is open now via an online portal and closes on Sunday 23 February.

Members will have received an email with information on the first round of elections, including how to take part in the vote.

The results will be announced on Thursday 27 February.

Rob said: “I’d encourage our members to take the time to read about the candidates and think who will represent them the best.

“Elections are an important part of the Federation and they are a chance for members to have their say and help shape the direction of travel.

“Please do get involved and use your vote.”

Elections are being held across most Police Federation branches, and in the national Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW).

The process began on 30 December when nominations opened for workplace representatives with constables, sergeants, inspectors, chief inspectors and Specials being able to self-nominate. Nominations closed on 24 January.

Those successful in the workplace reps election will form the new North Yorkshire Police Federation Branch Council. They can then put themselves forward to be elected to the Federation executive, the Branch Board, and, from there, a regional or a national role. 

Voting – frequently asked questions 

Q. Who can vote? 

A. Any member can vote as long as they were a member of the Federation two months before nominations opened. Nominations opened on 30 December, so they will need to have been a member on 30 October 2024. 

Q. How do I vote? 

A. Voting will be online during the voting period – a link is provided to all members. 

Q. How will the Branch Council election results be announced? 

A. Once the voting period closes, candidates will be informed via email if they have been successful. Branches will also receive an electronic copy of the results, as will the national general secretary, who is the arbiter of the election process.

The chairs and secretaries from branches across England and Wales make up the National Council 

The National Council votes to elect the National Board
