North Yorkshire Police Federation

PC Rosie Prior to be remembered at National Police Memorial Day

25 September 2025

The family of North Yorkshire Police’s PC Rosie Prior will join hundreds of people honouring and remembering their loved ones at this year’s National Police Memorial Day.

Rosie’s husband Chris, his sister Caroline, Rosie’s mum Diana, and her brother William, are attending the service, which is held annually to pay tribute to fallen officers.

The service brings together the family, friends and loved ones of officers who have died in the line of duty, as well as serving and retired officers of all ranks, politicians, civic and faith leaders, as well as members of the public to pay their respects.

This year, the service will be held in the beautiful setting of Coventry Cathedral on Sunday (28 September).

Chris and his family will travel down with representatives from North Yorkshire Police Federation and the Force.

He said: “The police are very kindly looking after us for the two days, and then there’ll be the memorial on the Sunday.

“I’ve not been before so I don’t know quite what to expect, but we’re grateful for the continued comfort and support from the police family.”

Rosie, a mother of two and a serving officer with North Yorkshire Police, died after being hit by a lorry on the A19 at Bagby on 11 January.

She will be among the fallen officers who are honoured and remembered at Sunday’s service.

Honoured

The day will include processions, music, and readings, and the lighting of candles to represent each of the four nations of the UK.

Chris said the Federation, the Force, and policing as a whole have been an important source of strength to him and his family since Rosie’s death.

“They have scooped me up, stood me up, and pointed me in the right direction,” he said.

“They have been there to look after me and the boys, which is fantastic. It really is.

“It’s something that you don’t want to know about, but we’re really grateful for having that support around us.”

If you're unable to attend this year's service, members can share their memories and messages on the NPMD Tribute Wall, which is now live.
