North Yorkshire Police Federation

National Police Memorial Day: registration open for 2025

24 April 2025

One of the most significant events on the policing calendar is now open for attendance bookings as arrangements are announced for National Police Memorial Day (NPMD) 2025.

Since being founded by the Police Remembrance Trust in 2004, the service has seen police officers from across the UK commemorated each year for their ultimate sacrifice, dying in the line of duty.

The 22nd edition of the event is set to be held at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 28 September.

Officers and staff, as well as their families, typically make up most of the attendees on the day, but anyone in the public is welcome to come and mark the occasion.

North Yorkshire Police Federation chair Rob Bowles.

Chair of North Yorkshire Police Federation Rob Bowles said: “Every colleague who has died on duty will have their own story - of why they got into policing, what they got out of the job, their career path, their friends, and how they ultimately lost their lives in policing.

“NPMD allows us to remember each individual for who they were, and remind their loved ones they are not alone, and we will never forget them.

Beautiful occasion

“It is always a beautiful occasion, with moments throughout which are very heartfelt as we, as police, give ourselves permission to pause and take stock of the sacrifices made in our profession all over the country, all the time.”

The service itself will begin at 2pm this year, with attendees to be seated in the Cathedral for no later than 1.30pm. It is expected to finish at around 3.15pm and will lead into an optional reception to conclude no later than 4.45pm.

It will include processions, music, reading and speeches, while there will be touches before and after to enjoy, including historic police vehicles, force standards and the West Midlands Police Band.

More information on what to expect from the day in its entirety can be found in the latest Police Remembrance Trust newsletter.

Federation members can register to attend on the official NPMD event page, which will generate a ticket to be brought on the day in a printed or digital version alongside a matching photographic ID.

As NPMD gets closer, a Tribute Wall for 2025 will open for messages and tributes towards late officers. In previous years, highlights of the service have been uploaded online for anyone who cannot make the event in person.
