Shift patterns changed in response to riots

8 August 2024

North Yorkshire Police Federation chair Rob Bowles has backed a temporary change to shift patterns to help cover the ongoing violent disorder in the country.

The Force’s Chief Constable, Tim Forber, has today announced that shift patterns are to change temporarily to meet immediate operational needs.

It comes as officers across the country have been subjected to sustained levels of violence as they try to protect the communities they serve.

Rob said: “As a Federation we understand that we’re in an unprecedented situation and we support the change to ensure that we have the levels of policing needed to police the situation.

Sacrifices

“I’m sure that our members understand that, given the situation across the country, we all have our role to play. These changes are being reflected across all forces.

“Our members represent the very best of British policing and the chief constable and the Federation really appreciate the sacrifices you are making at this time and the sacrifices that your families are making.”

Rob also praised the ‘skill, commitment, and bravery’ of officers.

He said: “On behalf of the Federation I want to thank our members for the work they are doing during an incredibly challenging time.

“They have been working incredibly hard over long hours, displaying exceptional levels of skill, commitment, and bravery.

“They continue to do their job with the utmost professionalism to keep communities safe.”
