North Yorkshire Police Federation

Fed chair to attend annual National Police Memorial Day

23 September 2024

North Yorkshire Police Federation chair Rob Bowles says the bravery of officers killed in the line of duty will never be forgotten.

Rob will represent the branch and its members at this year’s National Police Memorial Day (NPMD).

He will join hundreds of members of the police family for the service, which takes place at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on Sunday (29 September).

The annual event honours the more than 5,000 police officers who have died on duty in the past 180 years.

Rob said: “It’s so important that we remember our colleagues who have died while serving and protecting their communities. Their sacrifice must never be forgotten

“The National Police Memorial Day gives the police family and the public the chance to reflect, to remember, and to give recognition to those officers who lost their lives on duty. It’s also a chance to show our support for their loved ones.

“For me, it’s one of the most important dates on the policing calendar and I will proudly represent North Yorkshire Police Federation and our members.”

There is still time for the police family and the public to register to attend the NPMD Service.

The service starts at 2pm on Sunday, and attendees are to be seated no later than 1.30pm.

Service

Ahead of the service, there will be a parade from Glasgow’s George Square to the Royal Concert Hall involving the Police Scotland and Scottish Federation Pipe Band, and standard bearers carrying force flags from across the UK.

A guard of honour made up of officers from the UK and abroad will welcome the pipe band and the force standards procession.

There will be a Police Scotland flypast above the Royal Concert Hall at 12.40pm and vintage police vehicles will be on display in George Square.

The NPMD Tribute Wall is now live for people to share their memories and messages, and will remain online until a month after the NPMD weekend.

And for those who are unable to attend, an online service featuring highlights will be posted to the NPMD website after the event.
