A member cannot be sick and on leave at the same time.
Sickness Whilst on Annual Leave
2.1 An employee who falls sick during annual leave shall be regarded as being on sick leave from the date of issue of a doctor’s medical certificate. Only annual leave can be retaken, not rostered rest days lost through sickness. The individual must ensure that their DMS record for their annual leave remaining has been updated and that they are shown as sick for those dates.
In the event of a member being on leave, sustaining any injury, infection or ailment which would render him/her unfit for duty if he/she had not been on leave he/she should report the matter without delay to a supervisory Officer.
Leave can only be reallocated from the day of reporting and cannot be retrospective.
If overseas, there is no requirement to produce an NHS certificate as such certification does not exist outside the United Kingdom.
Certification for SSP purposes should be sought immediately on return to the United Kingdom.
Only annual leave can be retaken, not rostered rest days lost through sickness.
Details as to the self-certification procedures applicable within the Force are available from the Attendance Policy.
Your unfitness for duty may be challenged first by way of a referral to the Force Medical Officer and, if then the Force Medical Officer and your Doctor disagree on your fitness for duty, by reference to a third medical practitioner on appeal.
