Federation raises concerns about impact of PCC's Leicestershire Police budget

Andy Spence, Chair of Leicestershire Police Federation, said: "Leicestershire Police has already faced budget cuts of £23m and the PCC now wants to make further cuts which will see a cumulative loss of £4m a year by 2030.

"A direct result of this will be the loss of police officer and staff numbers. This puts the public at risk and shows just how out of touch the PCC is with policing.

"It goes directly against his police and crime plan to make the force financially stable and against his party manifesto of increasing police officer numbers.

"Leicestershire Police is already one of the top performing forces in the country despite being one of the lowest funded.

"It is shuddering to think that despite really clear evidence from those who know what they are talking about that he has chosen to cover his ears, ignore what the public have said and do what he wants.

"If this move goes ahead, the officers we represent will bear an unsustainable burden. It means less money for training, equipment and less support to deal with the trauma they face.

"The public will be at more risk because they deserve to deal with officers fit and ready to help them, not ones utterly broken by the demands of a job they're not funded properly to do.

"For a long time, the Federation has been saying that policing needs real funding in order to train, retain and protect them. If the PCC wants to keep Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland safe then he must sit up, take notice and increase the precept."
