NGAS is a UK-wide charity, dedicated to providing practical guidance and emotional support to individuals and families experiencing any type of grief or loss; including bereavement, relationship breakdown, ill health and an accident or long term injury.
How they support police officers and staff:
NGAS support individuals who are dealing with bereavement (both personal and work-related), serious or life-changing injury, misconduct investigations and ongoing proceedings, stress, anxiety, burnout and trauma, relationship breakdowns and family pressures, personal problems that may be impacting work or wellbeing, and retirement through ill health or sudden role changes. Their service is confidential, supportive, and trauma-informed, providing a safe space for officers and staff to talk openly without fear of judgement or professional repercussions. Support can be short-term or longer-term depending on what is most appropriate for the individual.
Accessing Support To make access simple and barrier-free, NGAS offer both self-referral and representative referral routes:
Police Officer and Staff Self-Referral: https://www.nationalgriefadvice.com/police-self-referral Individuals can reach out directly and confidentially, without needing permission or justification, which they find is vital for early engagement and support.
