Chair reacts to 2024 pay award for police officers
Leicestershire Police Federation Chair Andy Spence has reacted to the 4.75% pay rise award for police officers in 2024.
He said: "The pay rise announced by the Government is a step in the right direction, we cannot lose sight that this is below the 6% recommended by the NPCC and that we have had a 17% real term pay cut over the past 12 years.
“The existing pay mechanism is broken. The Police Remuneration Review Body does not allow for negotiation and this pay award shows that the body does not understand the unique role that police officers do.
“In a recent poll 98% of police officers in England and Wales polled voted for a return to collective bargaining with binding arbitration. This is the call to change.”
