Tax refunds for Federation members
If you pay tax, there’s a high chance you’ve paid too much, as hundreds of members have now discovered.
Your tax code tells employers how much tax to take off your pay, but it’s up to you to make sure HMRC has given you the correct code.
If you understand tax and are comfortable checking that any refund HMRC gives you is for the correct amount, then you should check your tax codes for the current and last four years.
If not, you may wish to let tax experts, The Tax Refund Company, do it for you. Thousands of police officers have already used this service and got money back.
Two out of three members in Hertfordshire who have completed a tax review with The Tax Refund Company have discovered they are likely to get money back from HMRC.
The average amount our members have got back so far is £128.79 each, although some members have had over £460 back.
If you wish to use the service, the main points to note are:
You should not assume HMRC will send you a refund if you have overpaid tax. It is up to you to check if you have paid too much tax and claim it back if you have.

This is your hard-earned money. Why let the Revenue keep it?
*If your refund is less than £38, the minimum fee will be reduced to the same value as your refund, so you have nothing more to pay.
