Hertfordshire Police Federation

Sergeant to be remembered at National Police Memorial Day

27 September 2024

‘We must not and will not forget officers killed in the line of duty,’ says Hertfordshire Police Federation rep Terasa Holden ahead of the National Police Memorial Day.

Terasa will represent the branch at this year’s service on Sunday (29 September) to honour the more than 5,000 police officers who have died while on duty.

She will join the families of fallen officers, representatives of the UK’s police services and police forces, and political and religious leaders for the service in Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall.

“The National Police Memorial Day is always a poignant and emotional occasion,” she said.

“NPMD brings the police family together to reflect, to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to show our heartfelt gratitude for their service.

“It also brings us together to give comfort and support to the families, friends, and colleagues of those we have lost.”

The National Police Memorial Day service takes place in Glasgow on Sunday.

Hertfordshire Police Sergeant Reece Buckenham will be among those remembered at the event after he died in a road accident on 29 June.

“We must not, and we will not forget our colleagues who have died. NPMD ensures their memory lives on,” continued Terasa.

“Reece and his loved ones will be in our thoughts on Sunday. He is deeply missed by so many of his colleagues and friends within policing.”

Ahead of the 2pm service, there will be a parade from Glasgow’s George Square to the Royal Concert Hall involving the Police Scotland and Scottish Federation Pipe Band, and standard bearers carrying force flags from across the UK.

Guard of honour

A guard of honour made up of officers from the UK and abroad will welcome the pipe band and the force standards procession.

There will be a Police Scotland flypast above the Royal Concert Hall at 12.40pm and vintage police vehicles will be on display in George Square.

The NPMD Tribute Wall is now live for people to share their memories and messages, and will remain online until a month after the NPMD weekend.

And for those who are unable to attend, an online service featuring highlights will be posted to the NPMD website after the event.
