The chair of Hertfordshire Police Federation has reiterated the views of Chief Constable Charlie Hall who has reminded the public that regular policing services are ‘absolutely still here’ during the COVID-19 crisis.
Geoff Bardell was speaking after a video in which Mr Hall speaks while on foot patrol with local officers in the Cheshunt area was posted on the Force’s social media feeds.
“We recognise that this is a tough time for people and we encourage that if you do need policing services, we are absolutely still here,” said the Chief Constable.
“We know how difficult it can be needing to stay at home and the disruption that has caused to your usual routines. But if you are subject to crime, suffering abuse in the home, or anything like that, we are still here for you. Please don’t hesitate to come forward and contact us.”
Geoff added: “Quite naturally, the vast majority of the focus since the lockdown began has been on the work police have been doing regarding the coronavirus outbreak.
“But as well as guarding communities and joining in the national effort to protect the NHS, our members have also been carrying out their regular work to combat crime and anti-social incidents too.
“It is important that the public know we are always there for them if they encounter any problems or issues that may need police intervention. I would reiterate the Chief’s Constable’s views and ask people to come forward, like they would under normal circumstances, if they need us.”
Mr Hall added that he remained ‘very impressed’ by the Hertfordshire public and their compliance with the Government’s travel and movement restrictions.
“We are seven weeks into the restrictions now and I am pleased to say that we continue to see really good compliance in Hertfordshire - and Cheshunt is no exception,” said Mr Hall.
“I have been very impressed by how compliant our communities have been.”
