Businesses and communities in Hertfordshire have been thanked for their help and support during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Hertfordshire Police Federation vice-chair Luke Mitchell says the feedback from members of the public and the local community has been overwhelming as officers work long hours to deal with a rapidly changing situation.
“Our officers have been working very hard, doing extra hours and putting themselves in danger as they cover the area 24/7,” says Luke, “But, over the last two weeks, the public have been amazing by thanking the officers and offering to pay for teas and coffee for them.
“Local businesses have also been providing food, equipment and PPE to help keep the officers going and stay safe.
“While our officers spend time away from their families, work extra hours and put themselves in harm’s way, they really do appreciate the reaction from the community and a thank you goes such a long way.”
Luke added: “While the coming weeks and months will be a challenge for us all, knowing we have the support of the community will keep our officers engaged and focused on ensuring we keep people safe and come out the other end.
“It’s time to unite and look after each other, and for the public to follow Government instructions to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.
“On behalf of the Hertfordshire Police Federation, we are grateful to our community for the way in which they are supporting our officers and we would encourage everyone to ensure they follow instructions and stay home.”
