Common custody issues discussed at forum

Federation representatives were able to discuss common issues and challenges at the Federation’s Regional Custody Forum, which was held before the coronavirus 'lockdown'.

Sergeant Mike Dring represented Hertfordshire at his second regional meeting, and has also attended the National Custody Forum.

So what are the challenges across the region?

“Dealing with Section 136 Mental Health Act detainees is an issue across all forces,” said Mike.

“The main discussion topic was Home Office consultation input on proposed changes to bail. It’s an opportunity to influence changes for the better.

“It’s a chance to consult and influence moving forward and to learn from peers in other forces.”

The Regional Custody Forum is due to meet again in three months’ time.
