Statement from Mark Loker, Chairman of Avon and Somerset Police Federation, following incident in Wick St Lawrence

“This week Avon and Somerset Police Federation has been supporting our Avon and Somerset Police colleagues, following an incident whereby our Firearms officers have had to make the hardest decision in a split second.

“This is the reality of Policing and is the reality of the dangers our amazing colleagues take, day on day to keep the communities of Avon and Somerset safe.

“Our thoughts remain with all involved in the incident.

“We have seen the statements from the force and the IOPC regards this incident – and we cannot comment much further due to an ongoing investigation which our colleagues are part of.

“But what I can say - as the Chairman of your Police Federation – is that I am immensely proud of our Cops, our team, and that their courage, caring and professionalism shone like the brightest beacon this week.

“We are supporting our colleagues through what is an incredibly pressurised Post Incident Investigation.

“It fills me with immense pride to read the messages of support from our public. I thank you all for your concerns for our members and I thank each and every one of you who wishes our Officers well at this incredibly difficult time.

“I assure you that we will continue to look after the Officers involved in this incident and they will receive the very best support whilst the IOPC investigate. We look forward to a swift outcome for the benefit of all involved.”
