Federation donates money from Recognition Awards to St Margaret’s Hospice
17 December 2024
Avon and Somerset Police Federation were delighted to donate the money raised in a charity raffle at our first ever Recognition Awards to St Margaret's Hospice in Somerset.
This charity was chosen because of the great and inspirational work of our colleague Taunton Sgt Jon Gallagher.
St Margaret’s Hospice is supporting his wife Lorin who is battling a rare and incurable form of breast cancer.

Iain said: “In March 2024, I had the pleasure of attending the Constabulary’s, Outstanding in Policing Awards and I shared a table with Sgt Jon Gallagher and his amazing team. They were being honoured for their bravery with a Special Recognition Award.
“While getting to know his team better, they revealed the challenging situation that Jon and his wife Lorin were facing. Reaching out to Jon, I soon discovered that he was fundraising for St. Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton and they were providing much needed support to him and Lorin who is facing an incurable health condition.
“Jon’s fundraising was doing well and he was weightlifting to get sponsorship. I wanted to do something to help and in October 2024, our branch of the Federation launched its inaugural Recognition Awards at Cadbury House Hotel. It was a sparkling and generous evening of celebrating the great work of our members.
“Because of the kind donations from our sponsors, we were able to offer tempting raffle prizes. Thank you to everyone who came and bought a ticket because the event raised £1,500!
“Jon and I attended St. Margaret’s Hospice this week where we handed over a cheque and our very best wishes for all the crucial work they do for Jon, Lorin and their family.”
