Fallen Colleagues to be remembered at National Police Memorial Day

The lives of almost 5,000 fallen police officers are to be remembered at the upcoming National Police Memorial Day Service in Glasgow.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the 21st National Police Memorial Day commemorations at the city’s Royal Concert Hall on 29 September.

David Wilbraham, the event’s co-ordinator, said members of the policing family, senior government ministers and representatives of all 43 forces in the UK would be in attendance.

He said it was important “to remember those who paid the ultimate price in policing by putting themselves in a place of danger”.

The proceedings are set to start with a display of historic police vehicles in George Square, followed by a parade led by the pipes and drums of Police Scotland to the memorial venue.

David said: “National Police Memorial Day demonstrates to the public and to the colleagues who are facing similar dangers that, should the worst happen, they will not be forgotten.

“It sets out the courage, the commitment and the bravery shown by officers, day by day, across our country.”

Saving added he hoped the day of commemorations would inspire people to join policing as a vocation.

David added: “If you can’t make the service in person this year, then in the week following there will be an online version of the service that you can watch.”
