Chair reacts to 2024 pay award for police officers

30 July 2024

Acting Chair Iain Prideaux has reacted to the 4.75% pay rise award for police officers in 2024.

He said: "Although the pay increase is welcome, it falls well below the 6% recommended by the National Police Chief's Council and does little to help with the recruitment and retention of Police Officers.

“I am disappointed to see public sector bodies rewarded differently and once again the Government has failed to value the unique and dangerous work of policing. With summer demand stretching the already thin resources and overtime being rejected for much needed time off, the Government will have to face the fact that 98% of members voted for the first stage of industrial action.

“Binding arbitration and collective bargaining are a clear demand and this branch has heard you loud and clear. We will keep fighting for the fair pay mechanism you deserve, one that appreciates and values your service to the public and accounts for the sacrifices you make to keep us safe."
