Avon and Somerset Police officers are being encouraged to put themselves forward to become Police Federation Representatives

13 July 2021

Elections take place every three years and give members the opportunity to vote for the colleagues they want to represent them locally and nationally.

The process starts with nominations for workplace representatives. Subscribing members from across England and Wales are encouraged to put themselves forward to be the voice of their officers locally.

The nomination stage closes on 22 July, before voting then commences.

Tony Henley, Avon and Somerset Police Federation Secretary-Elect, said: “The importance of work-based Police Federation Representatives should not be underestimated - current statistics show that our current Reps deal with around 1,000 plus enquiries a year.

“These figures don’t include the more complex conduct, equality, health and safety or ill-health cases. Neither does it include the time they spend attending force meeting and representing groups of members on the various changes that take place in shifts and demand.

“A significant amount of this is achieved in their own time and for that I thank them.”
