Avon and Somerset Police Officers and staff are being encouraged to talk about their experiences of miscarriage and fertility.
Losing a baby or not being able to conceive in the first place can have a devastating impact on mental health and well-being.
Now Avon and Somerset Police Federation hopes one colleague who is sharing her own fertility story will help others come forward and talk about they may have coped or are coping with the issue.
Jade Fish, who works in HR, has written a blog about her own circumstances on the force’s pocketbook site to try and broach the often little talked about subject.
In support, the force is hosting a Teams Call on Thursday 24th June at 2pm to improve the care and assistance on offer for officers and staff across the force.
Avon and Somerset Police Federation Chair and Equality Lead Officer Iain Prideaux said he knew many members would be interested in dialling in to hear more.
“Jade has bravely started a conversation about a personal journey which I know many people understand and will want to support,” he said.
“I encourage officers and staff to dial into the Teams meeting on 24th June to support Jade and help the constabulary understand the needs of the people going through these journeys.
“There is often a rollercoaster of emotions within them, and we can help the constabulary identify the help and support that might be needed throughout and afterwards.”
