Ethical Principles Policy - Update from the Chair

Through recent years, there has been a real shift in the way the Federation needs to support its members. The old Federation has failed to adapt its methods and is very well known as the insurance policy if one is found in trouble. As your Chair, I have been working hard to change this attitude, to change the brand of the Federation. We have so much more to offer in the way of support to all our members in so very many circumstances.

Where conduct is concerned, I noticed some real gaps in our procedures and some members sought service and were not given it. This was not acceptable, so I teamed up with Pc Abbie Osborne and we wrote and presented a paper around creating an “Ethical Principles” policy. This is a policy that allows us as Reps to look after both sides where a misconduct is concerned, where the victim is a Federation member, you will also be given a named rep should you wish, that rep will guide you through the entire process from start to finish. The rep will be trained and will understand and explain the processes you will go through if you report wrongdoing. The Federation has, within its own ethos a direction to support the codes of ethics and work with the force to enhance the ability to adhere to those codes and support all members.

Members subject to Misconduct proceedings will see no change in the robust service and cover we deliver.
