Wiltshire Police Federation

Statement from the independent review panel: How members can engage with us

23 August 2024

"We look forward to hearing from members at all levels as part of this process to help develop our understanding of the PFEW as an organisation and what went wrong."

As an independent panel, we are investigating the past failings at the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW) and assessing how the Federation should work in the future to ensure that it better and more effectively represents the issues and concerns of its members.

We are determined to get to the bottom of what has gone wrong and share our findings on how the Federation can change for the better. You can read more about the terms of reference here.

We were approached by the PFEW to conduct this independent review on the basis of our expertise in organisational finance, risk, governance, and membership organisations.

It is vital that as PFEW members you have a chance to share your views with us directly. There are two ways you can do this: through our inbox and at branch visits.

Sharing your views by email
The panel can be contacted directly by email at review@irp-uk.net.

This email will provide all members with a means of providing feedback to the panel on past failings at the Police Federation, and suggestions for how the Federation should work in the future. We ask that you keep submissions focused on these areas.

Branch visits
Over the coming months, we will be visiting branches in all regions to hold meetings where members can interact with us in person.

Given the increased pressure police forces across England and Wales have faced over the last couple of weeks, we know many officers have been working under difficult conditions and that for many, leave has been cancelled.

To ensure our visits happen at a time when officers have the opportunity to meaningfully engage with us, we are working with branches to finalise a timeline. This will be shared soon. In the meantime, our work will continue.

We look forward to hearing from members at all levels as part of this process to help develop our understanding of the PFEW as an organisation and what went wrong.
