In addition to pay and morale, including allowances, the survey spans across other important areas such as mental health, wellbeing, demand, annual leave/rest days and professional development to provide comprehensive insight into the realities of policing as they currently stand.
The findings from this survey continue to be invaluable in providing critical national and regional evidence to support our ongoing national pay campaign in calling for fairer remuneration for police officers and are pivotal for improving working conditions.
By identifying key areas, the feedback and responses create a clear time-sensitive picture for the Government, our key stakeholders, and members of the public to increase their understanding, helping us to secure improvements for colleagues all round through, for instance, policy and legislative changes.
The influential findings also appear in academic research, yearly within His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary's independent assessment, State of Policing: The Annual Assessment of Policing in England and Wales and were utilised as evidence for the Home Affairs Committee inquiry on policing priorities, setting out recommendations for the Government.
This year we have included three additional topical questions which we need your views on:
What unique aspects of policing should be considered when police pay is being reviewed?
We would like to know, according to you, which aspects of your role should be considered and included in the police pay structure.
By telling us your view you will help us decide how we influence the government in accepting our demand for a fairer pay mechanism involving proper negotiation and collective bargaining which is binding on government and all parties.
Given the recent unrest across the UK, how safe and supported did you feel whilst on duty?
By sharing your invaluable experiences on the frontline, we can press stakeholders for stronger welfare support, enhanced training and better equipment for public order duties.
Does social media have an impact on the way you are able to perform your role?
The rise of social media has presented policing with never-seen-before challenges. Let us know if and how it has impacted you.
The annual Pay and Morale Survey, conducted by PFEW's in-house Research Department, remains the sole consistent national survey that accurately represents members' perspectives on pay and working conditions.
You can find the troubleshooting document here. If you have any questions or experience any further issues in taking the survey, please email at researchanddatacollection@polfed.org.
