Polfed News

Our August POLICE magazine is out today, a special edition honouring this year’s incredible Police Bravery Award winners who displayed outstanding commitment and dedication both on and off duty.

Read how PFEW responded to His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Constabulary Andy Cooke’s first assessment of policing in England and Wales, calling for major reforms to repair public trust, and how crucial PFEW’s #SimplifyDG6 campaign is in order to achieve this. Learn more on its success one year since its launch, with changes to the Data Protection and Digital Information (No2) Bill presented at Parliament which will ease the burden on detectives and investigators whose workload has increased due to disclosure rules.

Check out our informative guest features, with Detective Inspector Tina Macleod sharing good practice on how the Metropolitan Police Service’s Inquest Team has evolved pathbreaking mechanisms to support witnesses during inquest proceedings, and T/CC Rob Carden from Cumbria Constabulary discussing his experience of hosting this year’s Response Policing Week of Action.

In our regular Lookback section, we also speak to retired City of London sergeant turned special constable Chris Pearson who reflected on his 32 years’ service, including when the Federation stepped in to help during a difficult time when he was ill with leukaemia, while our life after policing article, ‘Follow Intrepid Bear’, shares the inspiring story of two former police officers who set sail on their dreams to travel the world.

In our brand-new features ‘Special Spotlight’ and ‘Meet the CEO’, we interviewed Dr Ben Johns about his fascinating day job as a microbiologist, while volunteering as a special constable at South Wales Police, and we caught up with Mukund Krishna about his new role as CEO of the Police Federation of England and Wales and how he is working to ensure the organisation is fit for the future.

Spreading the word about worthy causes, our charity section also explores how an acting sergeant is taking on an epic challenge to raise funds and deliver medical kits to those serving on the frontline in Ukraine, and we celebrate the work of the Thin Blue Paw Foundation who has issued thousands of pounds in payments to owners of retired police dogs to enhance their quality of life.

We hope you enjoy this edition.
