SALISBURY MP John Glen got to join officers on the frontline to find out more about policing in the city.
He went on patrol with PC Josh Bliss and the pair responded to a report of antisocial behaviour in Lower Bemerton, before joining up with CID for an arrest attempt as part of an investigation into a sexual assault.
Cannabis was also found at the suspect’s address so he was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
Before going out on patrol Mr Glen joined officers and staff from Wiltshire South Community Policing Team for one of their briefings and weekly multi-agency tasking meeting.
PC Bliss said: “It was great to have an opportunity to show Mr Glen the wide variety of incidents that we attend and the type of work that our community policing team is involved in.
“The briefing and meeting were also a chance to highlight the ongoing issues and concerns that we have and how we work closely with partner agencies to make sure we have a joined up approach.
“He is more than welcome to pop by any time and come out on patrol with us again.”
Inspector Pete Sparrow added: “It is always fantastic when local politicians show an interest in the work we are doing – not only can we raise awareness about issues and challenges facing local policing, but it gives us an opportunity to highlight the important work that our officers, staff and partners are doing daily to keep the community of Salisbury safe.”
Mr Glen said: "I was grateful to be invited to spend a day with Salisbury Police and extremely impressed with the dedication and professionalism of Josh – and all the officers I met.
"As well as seeing a wide range of frontline policing tasks, it was both fascinating and helpful to take the opportunity to discuss how our officers would allocate the additional investment in policing."
