Nominate a colleague for a West Midlands Police Federation Bravery Award.
Every day, West Midlands Police Federation members face situations most people run from.
They put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public, tackle criminals, and save lives.
Often, these acts of bravery go unnoticed – officers ‘just doing their job’ without expectation of thanks or recognition.
But those moments deserve to be celebrated.
That is why we are asking members to nominate their colleagues for the Bravery Awards.
The award categories include:
Birmingham
Coventry
Dudley
Sandwell
Solihull
Walsall
Wolverhampton
There will also be a Sam Hughes Award for Inspiration in Policing - given in honour of the late former branch deputy chair Sam Hughes - which this year went to PC Zara Basharat.
Zara faced horrific racial abuse on the beat and is drawing on her experiences to support colleagues in similar situations.
An overall winner will be presented with the PC David Green Shield.
The shield is named in honour of 20-year-old officer PC David Green, who was stabbed to death by a mob in Birmingham city centre in 1975. In David’s 15-month career, he was commended three times for his bravery.
The incredible bravery of Sergeant Paul Williams was recognised with this year’s PC David Green Shield.
Paul saved the life of a woman who was being savagely attacked in the street by two vicious dogs in Yardley, Birmingham, in May 2024.

Sergeant Paul Williams and his wife, Jemma.
His actions were praised by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper when he represented the branch and the Force at the National Police Bravery Awards in London.
But the Bravery Awards are not just about medals or ceremonies. They are about shining a light on the moments where officers put others first and make a difference.
Think back over the past year.
Do you know a colleague who showed remarkable courage in the face of danger?
Has a colleague faced down a threat to protect someone in need?
Have you witnessed bravery that went above and beyond the call of duty?
If so, put their name forward.
Nominating is simple – but the impact is huge.
Make sure these incredible acts don’t go unrecognised.
