West Midlands Police Federation has praised the everyday heroism of its members.
Deputy secretary Chris James said the branch’s annual bravery awards provided a ‘snapshot’ of members’ courageous and heroic work.
He said: “All the award winners are really deserving. The bravery awards are just a small snapshot of all the work of our members across the whole of West Midlands Police.”
Acting chair Jess Davies, deputy secretary Chris James, compare
Alfie Moore and branch secretary Tim Rogers.
His message was echoed by Tim Rogers, branch secretary, who encouraged members to ensure their brave actions are nominated for next year’s awards.
Tim said: “Policing is often a thankless task and our members do it in the face of adversity.
“They get criticised in the media and people are very quick to complain about our officers and our members.
“These awards are a snapshot of what is happening each and every day.
“We would encourage our colleagues when they do acts of bravery to get it written up and recognised for evenings like tonight.”
Acting branch chair Jess Davies was also a winner at the bravery awards, which were supported by Slater and Gordon solicitors.
Jess collected the award for Solihull with colleagues PC Charlene Scott and PC Steve Worrall. The award was supported by No 5 Barristers’ Chambers.
She said: “Congratulations to all our award winners. We’ve heard it said that we’re just doing our job, and we are, but it is nice to get that recognition.
“It’s quite nerve-wracking to go up and collect an award, but it does make you feel good, particularly with family members there.”
Sergeant Paul Williams was the overall winner at the awards after saving the life of a woman who was being savagely attacked in the street by two dogs.
Paul will represent West Midlands Police Federation at this year’s national Police Bravery Awards in London.
Chris said: “Coming up against two really angry dogs must have been a terrifying experience. Paul is a really deserving winner.”
