Specials who have not yet subscribed to the Federation are being urged to consider doing so.
A change in legislation in 2022 opened up Federation membership to members of the Special Constabulary, but to date not all have signed up.
“Specials’ Federation subscriptions are paid by the Force so membership is free to the volunteers themselves,” explained Tim Rogers, secretary of West Midlands Police Federation.
“In effect, that means the Specials get free access to the support and advice the Federation can offer so it makes complete sense for them to subscribe.”

Special Constables can join the Federation when they have completed their training and when they start their duties.

To join, please download and complete the application form and either return by email or post to Guardians House, 2111 Coventry Road, Sheldon, Birmingham, B26 3EA.
On joining the Federation, Specials can also access the Federation’s Group Insurance Scheme (GIS). This is free for the first six months and payments are made by direct debit to the broker, George Burrows.

Specials who subscribe to the Police Federation can still access recordings of a series of webinars organised for their benefit.
The webinars, hosted by the national Federation, cover a wide range of subjects including the role of a Federation representative, conduct and discipline, equality, Taser and Post-Incident Procedures (PIP).
