David was killed on 28 May 1998 while acting as a motorcycle outrider for a national race.

He was involved in a head-on collision as he rode ahead of the cyclists near Malvern.

He was 41.

Stuart Bott, West Mercia Police Federation interim secretary, said: “Today we will remember and pay tribute to David, and also reflect on the risks that officers face while protecting our communities.

“He went to work doing what police officers do every day in ensuring the safety of others and in doing so made the ultimate sacrifice.

“We are thankful for his service and will continue to remember and honour him.
