Outgoing branch secretary Steve Butler has said heartfelt thanks to colleagues and supporters as he prepares to step into a new role with the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW).
Steve described his move as ‘a proud and humbling moment’.
The role will be taken on by Lesley Williams, West Mercia Police Federation’s first female branch secretary.
Steve said that while the Federation’s work would ‘always remain a work in progress’ he feels he is leaving it in a stronger position than when he started.

Steve Butler is preparing to take on a new role as a regional rep.
Steve said: “When I first came on board, I had no idea just how challenging the role and timing would be.
“My immediate goal was to get up to speed quickly, navigate the steep learning curve, and steady the branch during what was a difficult period.
“I am pleased to say that the branch we have today has evolved and is in a stronger position than when I began.
“That’s not to say everything is perfect, constant change brings constant challenges, and our work will always remain a work in progress.”
Steve expressed gratitude to the Branch Council, full-time reps, and, in particular, to office manager Suzy Smith.
“A major part of my own and the branch’s success is down to her hard work, and I want to thank her and all of you sincerely,” he said.
As he prepares to step into his new position as regional rep, Steve said he would ask PFEW if he could continue to support West Mercia Police Federation during the transition.
Steve said: “I will, of course, remain in regular contact with you all as I pursue my Federation career aspirations, applying the skills and experience I’ve gained here to have an impact on a much wider scale, always with the ultimate goal of being member focused.”
Steve said Lesley would strengthen the branch’s leadership team when she takes over as its first female secretary.
Highlighting the importance of the statutory position, Steve said it was the central point of coordination between representatives, the Force, national PFEW and members.
“Having worked with Lesley for many years, I know the wealth of experience she brings in areas directly aligned with the secretary’s role,” he said.
“Her knowledge, professionalism, and longstanding dedication to the branch make her uniquely positioned to strengthen our leadership team.
“I am confident she will excel, and I remain fully committed to supporting her, and all of you, during this important transition.
“Please join me in congratulating and supporting Lesley on this well-earned appointment.”
