Police officers and staff across West Mercia now have access to a dedicated 24/7 confidential crisis line, offering immediate mental health support when it’s needed most.

The Mental Health Crisis Line, launched by Oscar Kilo, the National Police Wellbeing Service, is designed to assist those experiencing acute distress - such as suicidal thoughts, self-harm, bereavement, or trauma.
The service is staffed by fully qualified counsellors with specific experience supporting emergency service workers. These professionals understand the high-pressure environment of policing and are trained to provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and follow-up guidance where required.
Importantly, the helpline is completely confidential. Any information shared will not be passed on to the Force, line managers, or occupational health. Its sole purpose is to offer a safe, non-judgemental space for officers and staff to talk openly and receive expert support.
The initiative forms part of Oscar Kilo’s wider suicide prevention strategy and its ongoing commitment to improving the wellbeing of those working in policing.
It has been developed in partnership with The Ambulance Staff Charity (TASC) and supported nationally by Police and Crime Commissioners via the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC).
Speaking on behalf of West Mercia Police Federation, Steve Butler said: "This is a hugely welcome resource for our colleagues in West Mercia. Day in and day out, our officers and staff deal with traumatic and often harrowing situations - scenes that stay with you.
“They must have somewhere to turn when things get overwhelming, and this helpline provides that lifeline 24/7.
"What’s particularly important is that this support comes from professionals who truly understand the reality of policing.
“This isn’t about ticking a box - it’s about making sure our people have real, immediate access to help when they’re at their most vulnerable. I’d urge anyone struggling, even silently, to pick up the phone. You don’t have to face it alone."

The helpline is available now. Federation members can call 0300 131 2789 at any time, day or night.
