30 April 2025

The latest edition of the West Mercia Police Federation magazine ‘Connect’ is out now.

Assaults on officers are, once again, high on the agenda with branch member PC Mike Poultney calling for tougher sentences for offenders who attack police officers.

He is speaking from experience after an incident in which he was repeatedly punched in the face and had his eyes gouged at.

The offender was later ordered to pay just £100 for their actions in court.

Two officers who risked their lives to stop a car driving the wrong way down the M5 have received a Force award and will be heading to the national Police Bravery Awards in July as a result.

Read Sergeant Kully Singh and PC Stacey Hegenbarth’s incredible story.

A group of Special Constables have enhanced their roles after becoming blue light trained, while members are also being encouraged to drive another valuable part of the Force – the Men’s Rugby Team.

There is loads more inside, including availability and discounted rates for the branch’s Cornwall holiday home during the summer months.
