Read how the remarkable courage of a West Mercia Police Federation member who jumped into a fast-flowing river to save a man’s life was celebrated at the national Police Bravery Awards in the latest edition of Connect, West Mercia Police Federation’s online magazine.
PC Chris Rogers was nominated for an award after dragging the man, who had jumped from Greyfriars Bridge in Hereford, out of the River Wye and to safety.
The magazine also features the annual Care of Police Survivors (COPS) Service of Remembrance, at which West Mercia PC Andy Boardman was remembered.
There’s a feature on the West Mercia Police team who wore black armbands in memory of Andy when they completed this year’s Police Unity Tour cycle challenge.
The magazine includes a tribute to Specials Chief Inspector Chris Smith and looks ahead to the National Police Memorial Day in September.
The Federation congratulates Chief Constable Pippa Mills on her appointment as an Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police and a welcome for the Force’s new Right Care, Right Person approach to mental health calls.
Find out about the Federation member who has launched a National Police Breastfeeding Network to support new policing parents with their return to work following parental leave.
And there’s a focus on the new police driver training legislations.
