Tributes are being paid today to Colin “Fluff” Freeman on the first anniversary of his death.
Colin, who started his policing career with West Midlands Police, was just months short of his retirement on 30 years’ service when he died.
“The thoughts of all of us at West Mercia Police Federation are with his wife Jenny and all Colin’s family, friends and colleagues on the anniversary of his death. I know that the ripples of this tragedy continue to impact on so many, and that Colin is dearly missed by all who knew him,” says Sarah Cooper, Federation branch chair.
A PC throughout his career, who enjoyed many varied roles, he was very proud of being a police officer.

Having been one of the officers to help protect the Pope during a visit to the UK, he had also been a firearms officer, worked on the ARV and rapid response, and also served as close protection for politicians which once involved him attending a cricket match with the then Prime Minister John Major.
Away from work, Colin was “music mad” – hence the Colin “Fluff” Freeman nickname.
A memorial for Colin will be held today. His memory also lives on with West Mercia Police Dog Maverick, with the family naming him in honour of a character in Colin’s favourite movie – Top Gun, the film which had inspired him to join the police.
