West Mercia Police Federation

Fund-raising brother of police officer takes on challenge in his memory

5 June 2021

Members of West Mercia Police Federation are being encouraged to support a man who is raising money in memory of his police officer brother and will be travelling through Pershore as part of a 600-mile-long challenge.

Jamie Alcock will be taking on the route in a carriage pulled along by two shire horses to raise money for Police Care UK after his brother, PC John Alcock, died following a tragic accident.

John was travelling in a car to guard Prince Charles in 2003 when the collision took place. The 54-year-old father was unconscious at the scene and died in 2017, having been in a coma for 14 years.

Jamie anticipates his challenge, which started today (Saturday 5 June), will take eight weeks, from his farm in Gloucestershire to Morayshire, in North East Scotland where his brother is buried.

Along with his dog, Boo Boo Beithe, Jamie will be making the trip to raise money for Police Care UK, a national charity which supports serving and retired officers with both their physical and mental health. He has set himself a target of raising £15,000.

Jamie is aiming to travel 20 miles per day in a carriage pulled by shires Millie and Willam. As well as Pershore, he will see the likes of Newant, Tewkesbury, Loughborough, Lincoln, York and Caledonia.

Supporters are also being given the chance to travel with Jamie in the carriage for an hour of his journey, in return for a £30 donation. There are limited spaces available and anyone who is interested should message his Facebook page.
